Built in 1909 as one of three sprinkler cars, these trams were used to spray water over the unsealed road surface. As roads were sealed, over used were found for these trams. S1 was the last sprinkler car to disappear, being cut up for scrap in 1959. Car S1 was the only one of the three Spinkler Cars to also double as a 'Scubber Car' with carborundum blocks fitted to smooth out the rail surface and provide a better ride for the trams.       <image:caption>A unique 'one off' in the Adelaide tram fleet was tram 38 which was converted to a Ballast Motor. Originally built in 1909 as one of the B type toast rack trams, 38 was converted to a running flat bed to transport rails and other track materials for the conversion of the Glenelg line to a tramway in 1929. During the Second World War, it was converted to hold a large tank of diesel fuel and was also made an unpowered vehicle.
